Two more teenagers face misdemeanor charges following a fight that shut down a high school football game at a Columbia stadium last Friday night.

A total of five teenagers now have been charged with affray, a misdemeanor carrying a penalty of up to $100 or up to 30 days in prison, after a fight broke out in the stands at Spring Valley High School during a game against Ridge View High School.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday that the latest charges are against two 14-year-old Spring Valley students, who were charged Monday and released to their parents.

Previously, three 17-year-olds also were charged with affray and released to their parents, the sheriff’s department said. Those three students, who did not attend schools in the Richland 2 district, have since been banned from all Richland 2 properties.

The sheriff’s department said an investigation into the fight is ongoing, including reviews of surveillance and body cameras to identify other potential participants in the fight.

The fight broke out during the third quarter of a game between Ridge View and Spring Valley. Ridge View led 27-0 with 11 minutes left in the third quarter when the incident occurred.

Following the incident, Richland 2 Superintendent Baron Davis emailed parents explaining that no weapons were involved and there were no major injuries. He added officials decided not the resume the game as a precaution.
