Teen killed in shooting at Columbia apartment complex named by Richland County coroner

A teenager was killed in a Friday evening shooting at an apartment complex across the street from a high school in Columbia, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Antonio Riley, an 18-year-old Columbia resident, was the homicide victim, the Richland County Coroner’s Office said Tuesday.

It was just after 7 p.m. Friday, when deputies said they responded to reports of a shooting in the 2500 block of Crofton Way in the Woodfield area. That’s near Richland Northeast High School.

When deputies arrived at the apartment complex, they found a victim with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. Riley died at the scene, according to the sheriff’s department.

The sheriff’s department said investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident.

There was no word on a shooter, or shooters, or any motive for the gunfire.

No arrests have been reported by the sheriff’s department, which said “this is an ongoing investigation.”

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
