A man and woman are wanted following a fatal shooting, SC sheriff’s office says

A South Carolina man was shot and killed Wednesday and a search is underway for two people facing murder charges, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

Stephon Xzavier Dunbar, 23, and Shirlette Dainelle Hayes, 29, are the wanted man and woman, the sheriff’s office said Thursday in a news release.

They’re wanted in connection to the death of a North Augusta man, according to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables.

At about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to a home in the 900 block of Old Aiken Road, the sheriff’s office said. That’s in North Augusta, in the area between Interstate 520 and U.S. 78.

At the scene, deputies found a man lying face down next to a car, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies attempted to provide the man aid until Aiken County EMS arrived on scene, the sheriff’s office said.

The man, who had been shot and suffered multiple injuries, died at the scene, according to Ables. He was later identified as 32-year-old Tavaris Burley.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday in Newberry, Ables said.

Witnesses told deputies that Dunbar exited a home and started shooting at the victim before he and Hayes left the scene, according to an incident report. The sheriff’s office said Dunbar and Hayes drove away from the scene, but information about a vehicle was not available.

There was no word on a motive for the shooting, or information about a previous connection between the victim and Dunbar and Hayes.

The sheriff’s office described Dunbar as a 6-foot tall, 130-pound man with black hair and brown eyes, while it said Hayes is a 5-8, 120-pound woman with black hair and brown eyes.

Both Dunbar and Hayes should be considered armed, according to the sheriff’s office, which is continuing to investigate the death along with the coroner’s office.

Anyone with information about Dunbar and Hayes’ location, or information on the shooting, is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 803-648-6811, Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.

In the case of an emergency, always call 911.
