Teen charged with attempted murder, two others arrested after shooting, SC police say
Three people, including a teenager, were arrested on multiple charges following a recent shooting, according to the Columbia Police Department.
Maalik Corley, 19, Demarco Gleaton, 23, and Ma’ziya Mills, 23, were charged for their roles in connection with an Aug. 17 attempted murder and armed robbery investigation, police said Wednesday night in a news release.
In August, Mills asked a man — who police called the victim — to meet her on Ripplemeyer Avenue, according to the release. Mills extended the invitation despite knowing that Corley and Gleaton were going to commit crimes, police said.
The victim was approached by Corley and Gleaton, who broke into his car and stole items, according to the release.
The victim ran away but Corley and Gleaton chased him down, then held him at gunpoint and assaulted him, police said. When the victim tried to defend himself, Corley shot at him, according to the release. The victim was not struck by gunfire, police said.
Information on the victim’s condition was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
When Corley was arrested Tuesday, he was charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, auto breaking, larceny and conspiracy, jail records show. While a $2,125 bond was set on the larceny charge, bond was denied on the remaining counts and Corley is currently locked up in the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, according to jail records.
Gleaton was taken into custody Wednesday and was charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault and battery, auto breaking, larceny and conspiracy, jail records show. Like Corley, Gleaton had a $2,125 bond set on the larceny charge but was denied bond on the other counts, and he remains behind bars, according to jail records.
When Columbia police arrested Corley and Gleaton, officers seized a gun that was reported stolen out of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, according to the release.
Mills was arrested Tuesday and was charged with conspiracy, accessory before the fact to a felony as well as after the fact to a felony, jail records show. Bond was set at $75,000 on Mills’ combined charges, and she currently remains incarcerated, according to jail records.
Corley, Gleaton and Mills are all scheduled to appear in court again on Dec. 13, Richland County judicial records show.
