South Carolina woman arrested after shooting targeted two people in car, police say

A South Carolina woman was arrested after two people were shot at while sitting in a parked car, according to the Sumter Police Department.

No injuries were reported in the Nov. 17 shooting, police said in a news release.

At about 7:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in the Marilyn Avenue area, according to the release. That’s in the Sumter area, near U.S. 378 and U.S. 15.

A man told officers that he and another person were sitting inside a parked car when they saw a vehicle drive past and then stop at a nearby intersection when shots were fired toward them, according to the release.

Police said that the shooter was identified as 39-year-old Sumter resident Christina Marie Hodge.

Hodge was taken into custody at her home, less than half a mile from the crime scene, and was charged with two counts of attempted murder and a single count of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to the release.

Hodge was booked at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, police said. No bond has been set and Hodge remains locked up, Sumter County court records show. She’s scheduled to return to court Jan. 10, 2025, according to judicial records.

The shooting was “domestic related,” according to police, who are continuing to investigate the incident. Further information about Hodge’s relationship with the victims was not available.
