Deadly shooting in the Midlands under investigation, South Carolina sheriff says
One person was killed Saturday in a shooting, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Dominique Edwards, a 36-year-old Sumter County resident, died from injuries he suffered from “an apparent gunshot wound,” Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker said Sunday.
At about 12:45 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 300 block of Enter Street, officials said. That’s in the area by Mooneyham Road.
Edwards was treated but died at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word about a shooter or shooters, or whether anyone else was involved in the gunfire. Information about a motive for the shooting was not available.
No arrests have been reported by the sheriff’s office which is investigating the shooting along with the coroner’s office.
An autopsy will be conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
