Two men died in shooting 27 years ago, and SC police are still searching for the killers
Two men died more than 25 years ago in a shooting, and South Carolina law enforcement officers are continuing to search for the killer, or killers.
On Tuesday, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division appealed to the public, asking for any information that might assist in solving the 1998 fatal shooting that happened outside of an Orangeburg club, according to a news release.
On Sept. 18, 1998, 23-year-old William “Tanzy” Halyard and 21-year-old Jonathan Simpkins were killed, SLED said in the release.
The shooting happened at Club Maliks at 3075 Magnolia Street, according to the release.
There was an altercation inside the club, then a fight broke out in the parking lot where Halyard and Simpkins were fatally shot, SLED said.
Two other people were injured during the shooting, according to the release.
Information about what instigated the fight was not available.
Nearly 30 years after the double homicide, the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office asked SLED to investigate the shooting.
There is no statute of limitations for any crime, according to South Carolina law, whether it’s a felony or misdemeanor.
Anyone with information about the shooting can contact SLED at tips@sled.sc.gov, or 866-472-8477.
