Trio tried robbing man, then one of them was killed in shootout, SC cops say

Two men have been arrested on multiple charges, including murder, after one man was killed and another was injured in an attempted robbery that turned into a shootout, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

In addition to murder, both 23-year-old Nigel Anderson and 19-year-old Sincere Glover were charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and attempted robbery (with a deadly weapon), the sheriff’s department said in a news release.

The charges stem from a March 13 shooting, according to the release.

At about 1:30 a.m. March 13, deputies responded reports of multiple people being shot in the 100 block of Westbridge Road, the sheriff’s department said. That’s in Columbia, in the area between Hard Scrabble Road and Rabon Road, near Exit 19 on Interstate 77.

When deputies arrived, they found one person who had been shot in the upper body and he died at the scene, according to the release. He was later identified as one of the suspects in the attempted robbery, the sheriff’s department said.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the man who died.

During an investigation, deputies said they learned that prior to the shooting, three men armed with guns attempted to rob the victim while he was in his car outside his residence. The men shot at the victim, who returned fire and hit one of the suspected armed robbers, the sheriff’s department said.

Glover and Anderson left before deputies arrived, according to the release. The other suspected armed robber is the man who died, the sheriff’s department said.

The victim tried driving to an area hospital but was found in his car not far from the crime scene, according to the release. The victim then was taken to the hospital for treatment, the sheriff’s department said. Further information on the victim’s condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

Anderson was arrested April 3, and was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, the sheriff’s department said.

On Tuesday, Glover was arrested and also was taken to the Richland County jail, according to the release. He’s also charged with a drug crime, jail records show.

Bond has not been set for either man, and both remain behind bars, according to jail records. Glover, a Lexington resident, is scheduled to return to court June 27, according to Richland County judicial records.

Anderson was out on bond from a previous arrest when the shootout occurred.

On Dec. 28, 2024, Anderson was was charged with second-degree domestic violence, Richland County court records show. A $10,000 bond was posted Dec. 30, according to court records, and the domestic violence charge is pending against the Columbia resident, court records show.
