Ex-policeman charged after on-the-job incident in SC, his old department says
A former police officer was arrested Tuesday on charges stemming from an incident that happened when he was working as in law enforcement in South Carolina, according to the Springdale Police Department.
David Jordan, who previously worked for Springdale police, was charged with misconduct in office as well as third-degree assault and battery, the law enforcement agency said in a news release.
Jordan was arrested by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division after surrendering to agents, according to the release.
The charges stem from a Nov. 9, 2024, incident, SLED said. It wasn’t until Nov. 18 that the department learned of a complaint that said Jordan used excessive force during an arrest he made in Springdale, according to police.
The excessive force included Jordan using a chokehold by grabbing the neck and throat of a person who had been detained and was wearing handcuffs, according to arrest warrants.
The excessive force caused an injury, but there was no word if the victim required medical treatment.
Following an internal investigation, police said that the complaint was “sustained,” and Jordan was fired on Nov. 22.
SLED was then contacted and led a criminal investigation into Jordan.
Jordan was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center, SLED said.
Information about Jordan’s bond was not available, and he’s not listed on the jail’s inmate roster.
The case will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.
