One person shot overnight in Columbia, South Carolina police say
One person was injured in South Carolina on Sunday night in a shooting, according to the Columbia Police Department.
A male was shot in the lower body, police said at 10:15 p.m. Police said the injury appears to be non-life-threatening, but further information on the victim’s condition was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
At about 8 p.m., police said they received a ShotSpotter alert, followed by an emergency call about the shooting in the 6100 block of Bailey Street. That’s in the area of Richland County between S.C. 277 and West Beltline Boulevard.
ShotSpotter is a technology that uses acoustic monitors to detect a sound like gunfire. The system sends the gunfire’s location to Columbia police within 45 seconds.
When they arrived, officers found the male victim, according to police.
There was no word about a shooter or shooters, or anyone else involved in the gunfire. Information about a possible motive for the shooting was not available.
No arrests have been reported, but the shooting continues to be investigated by police.
