Two men were run over and another man driving an SUV is in jail, SC sheriff says

One man was recently killed and another was injured when they were intentionally run over by an SUV near a boat landing in South Carolina, according to the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a report about two people getting hit by a vehicle at the Molly Creek Boat Landing, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. That’s on Lake Wateree.

Deputies found two men lying in the parking area who were critically injured, along with two other men standing nearby, according to the release. The deputies determined that the victims had been intentionally struck by a vehicle “in a fit of rage,” the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators with the sheriff’s office were immediately called, according to the release.

The investigators learned that Sumter resident Rosmann Justilien was involved in an argument with the victims that escalated into a physical confrontation, the sheriff’s office said. Following the altercation, Justilien got into a Cadillac Escalade and drove toward the victims, crashing into and dragging them a distance before coming to a stop, according to the release.

Justilien then circled the parking lot and returned to the area where the victims were on the ground, ultimately crashing and bringing the vehicle to a final stop, the sheriff’s office said.

Both victims were taken to MUSC Fairfield, before one of them was transferred to another area hospital for more treatment where he remains in critical condition, according to the release. Further information on his condition was not available.

The second victim died from his injuries at MUSC Fairfield Emergency Department, and was identified as 28-year-old Sumter resident Kelvorius Epperson, according to Fairfield County Coroner Chris Hill.

Justilien was charged with murder and attempted murder, the sheriff’s office said. No bond was set and the 32-year-old Justilien remains behind bars, Fairfield County court records show. He’s scheduled to return to court Aug. 13, according to judicial records.

Despite the arrest, the incident continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s office and coroner’s office.

Anyone with incident about the incident is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 803-635-4141, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
