Pregnant woman and another person shot in late night gunfire, SC sheriff says
A pregnant woman and another person were hit by gunfire Saturday night in a drive-by shooting in South Carolina, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 10:30 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a shooting at a home in Wentworth Court, the sheriff’s office said Sunday in a news release. That’s near U.S. 521 in the Dalzell area of Sumter County.
Deputies found two people who had been shot and provided medical aid before the victims were taken by EMS to area hospitals, according to the release.
The sheriff’s office said that one victim is in critical condition, but it was not clear if that was the pregnant woman or the other person who was shot. Further information on the victims’ conditions was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word about a shooter or shooters, or anyone else involved in the gunfire. Information about a possible motive for the shooting was not available.
No arrests have been reported, but the shooting continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s office.
“This was a reckless and violent act that put lives at risk and has deeply affected a family and this community,”Sheriff Anthony Dennis said in the release. “We are committed to finding those responsible and bringing them to justice. We urge anyone with information to come forward.”
