SC coroner identifies man killed by multiple gunshots at Columbia gas station
The Richland County Coroner’s Office has identified the man killed in a shooting at a gas station last week.
Deshawn J. Carroway, 29, of Columbia, was shot multiple times at the CK Mart gas station on the 2200 block of Broad River Road around 4 a..m. on July 2. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
On July 3, deputies with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department attempted to execute a “high-risk” warrant for Desmond Coleman in connection to Carroway’s death, according to a news release. A heavy police presence swarmed a residence in the Chadford Road area that day, a news release said. The car used in the homicide was towed from the residence.
Coleman remains at large. He has not yet been taken into custody, the sheriff’s department said.
“We will continue working with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department to fully investigate this homicide,” Coroner Naida Rutherford said in a news release.
The case remains under active investigation. Officials said further details will be released as they become available. Investigators with the sheriff’s department encouraged anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
