Man arrested following shooting near his South Carolina home, sheriff says

There was a shooting earlier this month in South Carolina, and a man was recently arrested for his role in the gunfire, according to the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.

Tyrese Antonio Robertson was arrested Monday at his Winnsboro home on Oak Street, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. The 23-year-old was charged with breach of peace (high and aggravated in nature) and weapons/possession of firearm or ammunition by person convicted of certain crimes, Fairfield County court records show.

The charges stem from Aug. 9, when deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the Columbia Road area, according to the release. That’s less than half a mile from Oak Street, and not far from Fairfield Central High School on U.S. 321.

Evidence showed that shots were exchanged between individuals near a residence on Oak Street, the sheriff’s office said.

No injuries were reported.

There was no word about anybody else who might have been involved in the shooting, or a motive for the gunfire.

Following an investigation Robertson was arrested, and a gun and ammunition were found in a search of his home, according to the release.

No other arrests have been reported, but the sheriff’s office said that the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges could follow.

Robertson was booked into the Fairfield County Detention Center, according to the release. Bond was set at $13,000 on the combined charges, and as of Wednesday morning had not been posted, court records show.

Robertson is scheduled to return to court on the charges Oct. 22, according to judicial records.

This was not the first time Robertson was arrested.

In May 2022, Robertson pleaded guilty to multiple weapons charges and a count of breach of peace from a 2021 arrest, court records show.

Robertson also was arrested on an attempted murder charge in July 2023 and eventually pleaded guilty to a reduced count of first-degree assault & battery, according to court records.
