Body of missing SC woman found. Police are investigating it as a homicide
A Columbia woman, reported missing nearly two weeks ago, was found dead.
Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford announced that human remains were found in north Richland County on Thursday. The body, discovered in a wooded area at the 100 block of Shakespeare Lane in Dentsville, was positively identified as Angela Fuller, 56.
“This is not the outcome we would want for any family who has a missing loved one in our community,” Rutherford said in a news release. “The confirmation of Ms. Fuller’s identity brings both clarity and heartbreak for the family. ”
Fuller was reported missing by a loved one on Sept. 1 who hadn’t heard from her since Aug. 29, officials said. She was last seen in the 3000 block of North Beltline Boulevard in Columbia, police said.
The Columbia Police Department had intensified its search for the woman earlier this week, The State previously reported. Officers canvassed more than 75 locations, including vacant buildings and lots, Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said. While police started Tuesday informing the public about the search, the investigation took a turn by the afternoon.
“Based on the amount of time that has passed since Ms. Fuller was last seen and evidence seized by investigators, we are investigating this incident in a manner similar to a homicide investigation,” police said on social media.
Police said that a person of interest in the case, Anthony Reese, remains detained on unrelated charges.
The case remains under investigation, the coroner’s office said.
