Two students stabbed during fight at South Carolina high school, sheriff says

Two students were stabbed during a fight at a South Carolina high school Wednesday, according to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.

The altercation happened at about 12:45 p.m. on the campus of Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. That’s at 601 Bruin Drive in Orangeburg, in the area between U.S. 601 and I-26.

Three students were involved in the incident, and two of them suffered “minor puncture wounds,” the sheriff’s office said.

Further information on the students’ conditions was not available. There was no word if any weapons were recovered, or what caused the injuries.

There were no reports of any other students, faculty or school staff getting hurt in what the sheriff’s office called an isolated incident.

Information about why the students were fighting was not available.

No arrests or charges have been reported, and there was no word if any students will face discipline from the high school or the Orangeburg County School District.

The sheriff’s office said it and school officials followed the school district’s safety procedures and protocols, and the situation was “quickly contained.” There was no word about which security measures were put into effect, or how long they were in place.

Other than those involved in the fight, the sheriff’s office said that all students and staff were safe.
