Three people shot at child’s birthday party, South Carolina sheriff says

Three people were injured over the weekend during a shooting at a child’s birthday party in South Carolina, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, deputies responded to reports of a shooting at a trailer park in the 4400 block of U.S. 378/Broad Street, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. That’s in Sumter, near Shaw Air Force Base.

EMS also responded to the mobile home park and took two of the victims to Prisma Health Tuomey hospital, according to the release. A third victim was airlifted by helicopter to Prisma Health Richland hospital in Columbia, the sheriff’s office said.

Further information on the victims’ conditions was not available, and there was no word if any of the victims were children.

No other injuries were reported.

Witnesses told investigators that gunfire was exchanged following a dispute involving residents at the child’s birthday celebration, according to the release. Information about the dispute, the number of people involved and how many of them fired guns was not available.

No arrests have been reported by the sheriff’s office said, which is continuing to investigate the shooting.
