South Carolina man charged with murder after drive-by shooting, sheriff says
One South Carolina man was killed and now another is behind bars, according to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Abion Brown, a 23-year-old Holly Hill resident, was charged with murder a month after a drive-by shooting, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday in a news release.
Brown was charged in the death of 28-year-old Jordan Walters, according to the release.
On Oct. 19, deputies were called to a Gabby Hall Court residence in Holly Hill where the victim was located, the sheriff’s office said.
No other injuries were reported.
Witnesses said a white vehicle passed the victim’s car as it traveled on Gabby Hall Court, with the occupant firing a weapon as it went by, according to the release.
Information about how Brown was identified as the shooter was not available, but he was taken into custody Monday, the sheriff’s office said.
There was no word about a motive for the gunfire, or if Brown and Walters knew each other prior to the shooting.
No bond has been set for Brown, who is being held in the Orangeburg County Detention Center, court records show. Brown is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 20, 2026, according to judicial records.
“This makes no sense at all, it’s just a senseless act that resulted in someone losing their life,” Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said in the release. “Nothing on earth can justify this, one killed and one throwing his life away.”
