Man who showed up at hospital may be connected to shooting, Columbia police say
A late night shooting Saturday at a home operating as an Airbnb is under investigation, according to the Columbia Police Department.
Just before midnight, officers responded to a report of a shooting at a home in the 1100 block Darlington Street, police said on social media. That’s in the Earlwood area, near the intersection of U.S. 176/River Drive and North Main Street.
Officers found property damage and collected evidence from the home, according to police.
Overnight, a man showed up at a hospital with a gunshot wound, police said. Investigators are working to determine if the injury is connected to the shooting at the Airbnb.
Police said that the victim’s injury is considered non-life threatening, but further information on his condition was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
Officers are also working to confirm the amount of people that were inside the home when the shots were fired, and their ages, according to police.
Information about the shooter, or shooters, and how many people were involved, was not available, and there was no word on a motive for the gunfire.
No arrests have been reported, but the shooting continues to be investigated by police.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit a tip online.

This was not the first shooting at an Airbnb in Columbia.
On June 6, one teenager was killed and three more were injured in a shooting at another home operating as an Airbnb at 2408 Lincoln St. in Columbia’s downtown Elmwood Park neighborhood. Following the shooting a 15- and 18-year-old were arrested on murder charges, police previously said.
In August, Columbia City Council gave initial approval to enhanced restrictions for short-term rentals. But last Thursday, the Columbia Planning Commission rejected new restrictions on Airbnbs and similar properties that are rented for less than 30 days at a time.
