One person killed and another hurt in late night shooting, SC sheriff says
One man was killed and another was injured in a late night shooting Friday in South Carolina, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
At about 11:55 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 7600 block of Garner’s Ferry Road, the sheriff’s department in a news release. That’s in a part of Columbia near Exit 9 on Interstate 77.
The deputies found a man who had been shot in the upper body, according to the release. Deputies provided medical aid until EMS arrived and took the victim to an area hospital, the sheriff’s department said.
During a search of the area, deputies found another shooting victim, according to the release. This victim was an unresponsive man who also had been shot in the upper body, the sheriff’s department said.
When EMS responded to this victim, they pronounced him dead at the scene, according to the release.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the victim who died.
Further information on the surviving victim’s condition was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about the shooter, or shooters, and how many people were involved, was not available, and there was no word on a motive for the gunfire.
No arrests have been reported, but the shooting continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s department.
