Man already in SC jail faces new charges for what police found on his phone
A man who was already locked up in a South Carolina jail is facing new charges after his mobile devices were searched, according to the Cayce Police Department.
Casey Taylor Price, 27, was part of a group of four people arrested in November following an assault, police said Wednesday in a news release. Jail records show that his bond was denied and Price was behind bars in the Lexington County Detention Center when he was charged with 15 additional counts that don’t appear to be related to the attack.
When Price was charged with assault & battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during a violent crime on Nov. 7, officers seized two mobile devices as evidence, according to the release. A search of the content on those devices showed that Price was actively involved in the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material, or child pornography, police said.
That discovery has led to price being charged with five counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and 10 counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to the release. Price’s bond was again denied on all 15 of the new charges, jail records show.
The assault charges Price is facing stem from an Oct. 22 incident in the Riverland Park neighborhood, police previously reported. That’s near the Congaree River.
A person complained to police that they had been attacked, prompting officers to search a Lexington County home, at 520 Riverside Lane, according to the release. During the search officers recovered multiple guns, including handguns and rifles, along with a significant amount of drugs, according to the release.
Price, along with Micala Nicole Baucom and Jennifer Marie Owens were arrested for their roles in the assault, police said. Investigators also determined that Stephen Allen Rhein was present during the attack and was accused of being armed, according to police.
The four remain in jail and face multiple charges connected to the assault, as well as multiple narcotics and weapons violations connected to the search, according to the release.
Members of the police department’s Criminal Investigations Division, along with the Street Crimes Unit, the Lexington County NET Team and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Firearm Detection K-9 were involved in the investigation.
