Attack on street led to search and 4 jailed on more serious charges, SC cops say

Two men and two women were charged with violent crimes following a recent search of a Lexington County home, according to the Cayce Police Department.

The search followed a complaint from a person who told officers they had been assaulted in the Riverland Park neighborhood on Oct. 22, police said in a news release. That’s near the Congaree River.

Information on the victim’s condition was not available, and there was no word about what led to the attack.

During the investigation, detectives identified individuals believed to be involved in the attack, according to Thursday’s release. Evidence led investigators to seek charges against Micala Nicole Baucom, Casey Taylor Price, and Jennifer Marie Owens for their roles in the assault, police said. Investigators also determined that Stephen Allen Rhein was present during the attack and was accused of being armed, according to the release.

On Nov. 7, members of the police department’s Criminal Investigations Division, along with the Street Crimes Unit, the Lexington County NET Team and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Firearm Detection K-9 executed a search warrant at 520 Riverside Lane, police said.

During the search officers recovered multiple guns, including handguns and rifles, along with a significant amount of drugs, according to the release.

Baucom was charged with assault & battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, trafficking fentanyl and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, police said. Her bond was set at $165,000 on the combined charges, but she remains locked up at the Lexington County Detention Center, jail records show.

Price, who was charged with assault & battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, was denied bond, according to the release.

Rhein also was denied bond after being charged with two counts of possession of firearms and ammunition by persons convicted of certain crimes, police said.

Owens, who is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County, will be charged with assault & battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession with intent to distribute heroin and possession of meth (third offense), according to the release. No bond has been set on an assault & battery of a high and aggravated nature charge from a Nov. 7 arrest in Richland County, jail records show.

“I am extremely proud of our team. Our investigators worked quickly and diligently to find who committed these acts and bring them to justice,” Cayce Police Chief, Dr. Bruce Wade said in the release. “Our top priority remains the safety and well-being of the Cayce community.”
