I-20 traffic stop leads to trafficking charges for man & woman, SC sheriff says
A traffic stop on Interstate 20 led to the arrest of two South Carolina residents on drug trafficking charges, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
Lexington residents Jonathon Shockley, 26, and Emily Gomez, 25, each were charged with drug and gun crimes, the sheriff’s department said Monday in a news release.
“Shockley and Gomez were arrested (Nov. 25) during a traffic stop on Interstate 20 around mile marker 47,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said in the release. “During the traffic stop, deputies found 166 grams of fentanyl and a handgun in the car.”
Investigators with the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team got a warrant to search Shockley’s home, according to the sheriff’s department.
“Investigators found fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, scheduled prescription medication, marijuana and multiple bags of additional suspected opioids inside the home,” Koon said. “Investigators also seized over $76,000 and multiple guns.”
Shockley was charged with two counts of trafficking fentanyl, two counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, along with single counts of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute Schedule IV drugs and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to the release.
Gomez was charged with trafficking fentanyl and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s department said.
Both Shockley and Gomez were booked into the Lexington County Detention Center and have since been released after posting bond, according to the release. Gomez’s bond was set at $83,000 on the combined charges, while Shockley’s was a combined $196,000, Lexington County court records show.
