Woman’s dead body found in SC home and a man is arrested, Columbia police say

A woman’s body was found inside a South Carolina home Wednesday morning, and a man has been arrested, according to the Columbia Police Department.

At about 7 a.m., officers found a dead woman inside a home in the 2300 block of Byrnes Drive, police said. That’s in the area between Two Notch Road and Forest Drive, near the Forest Acres area of Columbia.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the woman.

A man was detained for questioning at the crime scene, police said.

Eleazar Del Valle Jeronimo, 42, was then taken to police headquarters for questioning before he was charged with voluntary manslaughter and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to police.

Del Valle Jeronimo and the victim were in a relationship, police said.

Investigators believe Del Valle Jeronimo argued with the victim before using a sharp object to kill her, according to police. Information about why they were arguing was not available, but police called the deadly attack an isolated incident.

Del Valle Jeronimo was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, police said. No bond has been set and he remains behind bars, jail records show.
