Shooting leaves one man dead & another hospitalized, South Carolina sheriff says

Two men were taken to a South Carolina hospital Friday night following a shooting, and one of them has died, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

At about 9:30 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 7500 block of Hunt Club Road, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. That’s in a part of Columbia between Two Notch Road, Decker Boulevard as well as I-20 and I-77.

At an apartment complex, deputies found a male victim who had been shot in his midsection, according to the release. Deputies provided medical aid to the victim until EMS arrived and took him to an area hospital, the sheriff’s department said.

Further information on the victim’s condition was not available.

Shortly after investigators arrived to the hospital another gunshot victim also arrived, according to the release. This second male victim had been shot in the upper body, and was pronounced dead on arrival, the sheriff’s department said.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the second shooting victim.

No other injuries were reported.

Investigators determined both victims were connected to the same shooting, the sheriff’s department said.

While searching the immediate area of the shooting for evidence, deputies found two guns, according to the release. One gun was discovered inside the residence and another outside on the ground, the sheriff’s department said.

Information about the shooters, and how many people were involved, was not available, and there was no word on a motive for the gunfire.

No arrests have been reported, but the shooting continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s department.
