Body found near Circle K in SC and there’s a search for his killer, sheriff says

A search is underway for a killer after a man’s body was found near a Circle K in South Carolina, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim was identified as 41-year-old Aiken resident Bobby A. Johnson, the Aiken County Coroner’s Office said.

Just before midnight on Monday, deputies responded to the Circle K gas station/convenience store at 5412 Jefferson Davis Highway, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday in a news release. That’s in the Beech Island area, near Exit 17 on I-520.

Near the store’s parking lot, deputies discovered the body of a man who had been shot at least one time, according to the release. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

No other injuries were reported.

In addition to the deputies, forensic units were called to the scene and are continuing with the investigation, according to the release. The coroner’s office said it’s also continuing to investigate the death, and an autopsy will be performed in Newberry later this week.

Information about the shooters, and how many people were involved, was not available, and there was no word on a motive for the gunfire.

No arrests have been reported.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 803-642-1761, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
