South Carolina man arrested for threatening to kill a public official, cops say

A Lexington County man was arrested Monday for threatening to kill a public official, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Levar Markeith Henderson, 38-year-old Gaston resident, was charged with threatening the life of a public official, SLED said Tuesday in a news release.

The death threat was made Monday, and it targeted an official in Newberry County, according to an arrest warrant.

Henderson used an electronic device to issue the threat to kill the victim, the arrest warrant shows.

Further details about the death threat, and a motive for making it, were not available.

Henderson was booked into Newberry County Detention Center, SLED said. Further information on Henderson’s bond status was not available.

He will be prosecuted by the 8th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, according to the release.

If convicted on the charge, Henderson faces a maximum punishment of 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine, according to South Carolina law.
