Fourth person arrested in SC State homecoming shootings, SLED reports
A fourth person was arrested in connection to shootings at South Carolina State University in October, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
Lucas Shemar Bradley, 19, of Richland County, was charged Thursday with carrying a weapon on school property, according to a news release.
The charge stems from two unrelated shootings that occurred on the Orangeburg campus during S.C. State’s homecoming celebration Oct. 4, when one person — Jaliyah Butler, 19 — was killed and another injured, the release said.
Video surveillance showed Bradley removing a handgun from his pants while at a dormitory on campus, according to a warrant.
Bradley admitted to investigators he was in possession of the firearm and was the person captured by the surveillance camera, the warrant said.
Bradley’s arrest follows the arrest of 18-year-old Columbia resident Treveion James Crawford, 18-year-old Blythewood resident Matthew Daniel McCoy, 18, and Jimmy Lee Thompson Jr., 18, of Lexington County.
Crawford, McCoy and Thompson were also charged with carrying a weapon on school property. No one has been charged more serious charges such as murder, attempted murder or discharging a firearm.
Bradley was booked into the Orangeburg County Detention Center.
The shootings remain under investigation by SLED, at the request of the S.C. State Department of Public Safety.
