Infant and 25-year-old man killed in shooting, South Carolina coroner says

An infant was one of two South Carolina residents killed Tuesday in a shooting, according to the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office.

Damon Rice, a 25-year-old resident of Orangeburg’s Gue Road, died at the scene, Coroner Sean Fogle said in a news release.

Six-month-old Marco Frazier Jr., who lived at a Laquinta Drive home in Orangeburg, died at MUSC Health Orangeburg from the injuries he suffered during an exchange of gunfire, according to the release.

The shooting happened in the 400 block of Gibson Street, the coroner’s office said. Rice’s body was discovered near the intersection of Summers Avenue and Amelia Street, which is a third of a mile from Gibson Street.

The Orangeburg Department of Public Safety said Marco Frazier Sr., was involved in an argument with another man which turned into a shooting, WRDW reported. Information about why the men were arguing was not available.

The department of public safety said that as the men opened fire on each other, the baby and his mother were shot, WLTX reported. Further information on the mother’s condition was not available.

Rice was the other man involved in the shooting, and he drove away from the Gibson Street home and was inside a Honda when he was found at the intersection, according to WLTX.

No other injuries were reported.

The department of public safety said Frazier Sr., surrendered to officers, WRDW reported. Information on the charges he is facing was not available.

Autopsies on the baby and Rice will be performed Friday, Fogle said.
