Man was shot & killed while visiting friend, say SC police who search for gunman

A South Carolina man’s dead body was found inside the Midlands home of an acquaintance over the weekend, according to the Sumter Police Department.

At about 5:15 p.m. last Friday, officers were called to a Fagan Street home where Jeremy Jerrod Barr’s body was discovered, police said in a news release. That’s near the junction of U.S. 15 and East Red Bay Road in Sumter.

Barr, an acquaintance of a resident at the Fagan Street house, was at the home that morning and was shot sometime that day before being found, according to the release. The 38-year-old Timmonsville man’s body was discovered when one of the residents of the Fagan Street home returned to the Sumter house, police said.

No other injuries were reported.

Information about the shooter, or shooters, and how many people were involved, was not available. There was no word on a motive for the gunfire.

No arrests have been reported, but the shooting is being investigated by police.

Anyone with information about the shooting, or those who might have seen or heard something in the 200 block of Fagan Street on Jan. 23, is asked to call police at 803-436-2700, CrimeStoppers at 803-436-2718 or submit an online tip.
