Man suspected of sex crimes with two kids might have more victims, SC police say

A local man was recently arrested in South Carolina on charges of sexually abusing two children, according to the Sumter Police Department.

Isaac Bernard Cocklin, a 38-year-old who is considered transient, was charged with first- and third-degree counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor, police said Monday in a news release.

The charges are connected to incidents from 2022 with two different children, but police said they only learned about the crimes last month, according to the release.

Between January and July 2022, Cocklin is accused of being involved in the sexual battery of a child under the age of 12 and the inappropriate touching of another child under the age of 7, police said.

Cocklin was arrested March 11, and is being held in the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, according to the release. No bond has been posted, Sumter County court records show.

Cocklin might have other minor victims that he had inappropriate contact with prior to his arrest, and continues to be investigated, police said.

Anyone with information about the investigations, or who was victimized by Cocklin, is asked to call police at 803-436-2700.
