Two people shot overnight at bar in downtown Columbia, SC police say

Two people were shot early Sunday morning at a bar in South Carolina, according to the Columbia Police Department.

A man and woman were shot at Jay’s Bar and Grill in the Vista area, police said in a news release.

The injuries were not life-threatening, according to police. Further information on the victims’ conditions was not available.

At about 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a reported shooting at 902 Gervais Street, according to the release. That’s in downtown Columbia, two blocks from the intersection with Assembly Street and the South Carolina State House.

There was a fight inside the bar, followed by shots being fired, police said. Information about what led to the fight was not available.

There was no word if the victims were the intended targets of the shooter, or shooters.

No other injuries were reported.

No arrests have been reported in the shooting that continues to be investigated by police. Officers have collected evidence from the scene, interviewed witnesses and assisted with crowd control, according to the release. Officers will continue to canvass the area for additional surveillance footage and potential evidence, police said.
