Man killed in domestic-related shooting, South Carolina police say
One man is dead and another is in jail following a weekend shooting in South Carolina, according to the Sumter Police Department.
Jarmel Benjamin Ellis, 42, was the victim, police said Monday in a news release.
At about 3:45 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a call about a shooting at a Mitchell Street home, according to the release.
Officers found Ellis inside the home where he lived and discovered he’d been shot, police said. Ellis was taken to an area hospital where he later died, according to the release.
No other injuries were reported.
Devon Brown, 33, who also lives at the home, was found inside, police said. Brown was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to the release.
He was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, according to the release.
There was no word about a motive for the gunfire. Information about Brown and Ellis’ relationship was not available, but police said the incident was a domestic-related shooting.
Despite the arrest, police are continuing to investigate the shooting.
