$875,000 bond issued for man charged after shooting, South Carolina sheriff says
A South Carolina man was arrested following a recent shooting, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Javon Kenley, a 24-year-old Calhoun County resident, was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and discharging a firearm into a vehicle, the sheriff’s office said in a Tuesday news release.
The shooting happened on the night of May 1, according to the release.
Deputies responded to reports of a shooting at the Lakeview Apartments and found a victim who had been shot, the sheriff’s office said.
The victim was taken to an area hospital, according to the release. Further information on the victim’s condition was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
Kenley was arrested Tuesday, Calhoun County court records show. Information about how Kenley was identified as the shooter was not available. His bond was set at $875,000 on the combined charges, and has not been posted, according to court records.
Kenley is scheduled to return to court July 24, judicial records show.
There was no word about a motive for the shooting, or if Kenley knew the victim prior to the gunfire.
Despite Kenley’s arrest, the sheriff’s office said that it’s continuing to investigate the shooting.
Kenley was previously arrested in Calhoun County in September 2023 when he was charged with assault and battery, court records show. Two months later he pleaded guilty to the charge, according to court records.
