Nightclub shooting spree

This was the third shooting at a nightclub in Richland County in the past week.

Early in the morning on May 10, a man was was shot and killed by a Forest Acres police officer outside Relapse Bar & Grill, at 5024 Two Notch Road, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said 32-year-old Lexington resident Cody A. Johnson was driving erratically and threatening the lives of people in the club’s parking lot when the officer shot him multiple times. Johnson died at the scene.

Three days later, a South Carolina man was shot and killed May 13 by a security guard after he and a woman were thrown out of club Bar Code, at 224 Oneil Court in Columbia, the sheriff’s department said.

A security guard told the sheriff’s department that he was outside the club when he shot 28-year-old Desmond T. Montgomery multiple times — after the Greeleyville resident pulled a gun from his waistband. Montgomery was taken to an area hospital where he died, according to the sheriff’s department.

No arrests have been reported in the Wednesday morning shooting at Bar Code, which like the shooting at Relapse is being investigating by the sheriff’s department.
