First arrest made in shooting that led to shootout with deputies, SC sheriff says
Another arrest has been made in relation to a string of shootings in the Summit area of Columbia, the Richland County sheriff’s department announced Wednesday.
Aric Hicks, 19, was arrested July 1, and is being charged with seven counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and aggravated breach of peace, a sheriff’s department news release said Wednesday.
Authorities say Hicks was one of several people that participated in an early-morning June 4 shooting on Sagamare Road. Additional suspects were not identified in the release. Hick’s was charged for each of the seven people in the Sagamere Road house that was shot at, the release said. Hicks was the first arrest in that shooting, police said.
According to the release, the Sagamare Road shooting was one of two incidents that led up to a deadly shootout involving Richland County deputies.
During the shootout, one person was killed, 18-year-old Qwa’Maurie Deaver, and three others, including 18-year old Sireon Beaufort, were arrested. A fifth suspect, 21-year-old Tyjae Miller, has not been arrested, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said at a June 5 news conference.
Beaufort’s mother, Alicia Magwood, 46, and 17-year-old Arrington Jones, who shares a child with Beaufort, were both arrested June 30 on charges relating to aiding Beaufort, the sheriff’s department said.
Sade Grooms, 41, the mother of a 16-year-old suspect, was arrested June 18 and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Hicks is being held in the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, jail records show.
