Suspect identified in shooting near Benedict College Thursday night

Columbia Police are looking for 24-year-old Derrick Deyon Lott in connection with the drive-by shooting near Benedict College Thursday afternoon.

Lott is considered armed and dangerous, said police chief Skip Holbrook in a release Friday night.

Lott is accused of opening fire on a group of people standing outside the Allen-Benedict Apartments on Laurel Street. One man was struck by a bullet in the lower leg and taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

Lott is awaiting trial on a domestic violence charge from 2015.
