Richland 2 to hold graduation ceremonies at Spring Valley High in June

Richland 2 schools will be holding graduation at Spring Valley High School in June, the district announced Friday.

The ceremonies, at Harry Perone Stadium, 120 Sparkleberry Lane, will take place from June 1-5 and will include social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the district said in an announcement.

Each senior will be allowed to bring two guests, and nobody else will be allowed to attend the ceremonies, which will also be live-streamed at https://livestream.com/richland2.

“As we finalize the logistics for the ceremonies, our focus remains on the safety and welfare of those who will attend,” Richland 2 Superintendent Baron Davis said in the announcement. “These graduation ceremonies will look very different from those in the past but they will certainly reflect the resiliency of the Class of 2020 and provide a meaningful tribute to our seniors.”

The high schools in the district include: Blythewood, Richland Northeast, Ridge View, Spring Valley and Westwood.

Since the coronavirus quarantine began, Richland 2 officials have promised to have some sort of ceremony for graduating seniors, but it was unclear what form and at what time that would occur, according to a previous article from The State.

Late last month, the district had reserved Colonial Life Arena on Aug. 5 and Aug. 6 as a “backup” plan, officials said at the time.

Graduation ceremonies will begin at 8 a.m. on the following dates.

  • June 1: Spring Valley High
  • June 2: Richland Northeast High
  • June 3: Blythewood High
  • June 4: Westwood High
  • June 5: Ridge View High
