Elementary school in Columbia to remain closed because of flooding, SC officials say
An elementary school in Columbia will be closed until Thursday after most of the building was affected by flooding, Richland 1 officials said.
Monday classes were canceled at Pine Grove Elementary School, officials said in a news release. That’s in the area between Broad River Road and Interstate 26.
Tuesday and Wednesday will be e-learning days for students. Parents can pick up e-learning materials, as well as breakfast and lunch for their children, on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, the district said.
Richland 1 officials said power and the water will be shut off at the school.
A ruptured water line caused the flooding inside the building, officials said. The water line has been repaired, and the district’s custodial operations staff worked with a contractor to remove the water and assess the damage, according to a release.
The drying process will begin Monday afternoon, officials said.
Classes at Pine Grove are expected to resume Thursday.
