Winning a six-digit jackpot won’t stop SC woman from playing her lucky numbers again

Winning a six-figure lottery jackpot isn’t stopping a Midlands woman from playing her lucky numbers.

If anything, it proved the numbers are lucky and she plans on using them more, the winner told South Carolina Education Lottery officials.

“I’m still going to play them,” the woman said in a news release after winning a $200,000 jackpot.

The woman used her lucky numbers — 4, 5, 6, 11 and 36 — on a Palmetto Cash 5 ticket that she bought for a $1 at the Sharpe Shoppe at 235 Blythewood Road in Blythewood, according to the release. That’s near Interstate 77, in an area densely packed with restaurants, hotels and other businesses. The woman spent an additional $1 to purchase the Power-Up option, lottery officials said.

The woman told lottery officials that she’s been playing those numbers for years, occasionally matching a few here and there for a small win, but couldn’t believe it when they all matched for a six-figure payday.

“It’s a relief,” she said.

The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.

The woman didn’t say how she’ll spend her newfound windfall.

The odds of winning $200,000 in Palmetto Cash 5 are one-in-878,399, according to the release.

The Sharpe Shoppe received a commission of $2,000 for selling the claimed winning ticket, lottery officials said.
