Check your lottery tickets. Pair of seven-figure winning Mega Millions games sold in SC

Not one, but two seven-figure winning lottery tickets were sold in the Palmetto State prior to Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing, South Carolina Education Lottery officials said Wednesday in a news release.

A $2 million winning game was sold at a Quik Trip, while a $1 million winning ticket was purchased at a Food Lion grocery store, according to the release.

Now searches are underway for the winners.

The $2 million winning ticket was bought at the Quik Trip gas station/convenience store at 891 Gold Hill Road in Fort Mill, officials said. The ticket worth $1 million was sold at the Food Lion at 110 Highway 9 East in Longs, according to the release.

Both tickets matched all five white ball numbers drawn, and the Fort Mill player purchased the additional Megaplier option to double their $1 million prize to $2 million, officials said.

The odds of matching all five white balls are 1-in-12,607,306, according to the release.

The winning numbers from Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing were 16, 18, 21, 54, 65 and Megaball: 5.

The winners have 180 days to claim the prizes, according to lottery officials.

The winners will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.

“Sign the back of your ticket and put it in a safe location until you’re ready to come forward to claim the prize,” lottery officials said.

Both the Quik Trip and Food Lion will receive commissions for selling the winning tickets, when they are turned into lottery officials.

In addition to the pair of seven-figure winning games, more than 16,000 players bought prize-winning Mega Millions tickets in South Carolina prior to Tuesday’s drawing, according to the release.

Because there was no grand prize winner Tuesday, the jackpot for Friday night’s Mega Millions drawing has risen to $627 million.

Tickets are $2, and could cost more with additional options.

The odds of winning Mega Million’s grand prize are 1-in-302,575,350.
