Man knows how he’ll spend jackpot after winning SC Lottery game’s grand prize

“Eureka!”

That’s what a Midlands man said after he discovered that he’d bought a grand-prize winning lottery ticket, according to South Carolina Education Lottery officials.

And the man didn’t waste anytime confessing how’d he’d spend his newfound $200,000 windfall, officials said in a news release. He told officials that he’s looking forward to spoiling his grandchildren with the prize money.

“It’s good to have it,” he said in the release.

The six-figure winning scratch-off ticket was purchased for $5 at the One Stop of Columbia convenience store on Hazelwood Road, according to the release.

He confided that he chose to buy the Poker Night ticket because he enjoys card games, but never expected to win the lottery game’s top jackpot, officials said.

The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.

The man overcame 870,000-to-1 odds to win the grand prize on the Poker Night ticket, according to the release. One of the game’s four grand prize winning tickets remain unclaimed, officials said.

One Stop of Columbia received a commission of $2,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
