A winning Powerball ticket was sold at SC store connected to a McDonald’s

While nobody won the Powerball grand prize in the most recent drawing, someone who bought a ticket in the Palmetto State was one number away from collecting a $565 million jackpot, according to South Carolina Education Lottery officials.

For coming so close to matching all of the numbers in Saturday’s drawing, the ticket buyer will receive a $50,000 consolation prize, officials said Monday in a news release.

The five-figure winning Powerball game was purchased at a Citgo gas station/convenience store connected to a McDonald’s fast food restaurant at 1706 White Horse Road in Greenville, according to the release.

The ticket matched four white ball numbers and the red Powerball number, a feat that has odds of 1-in-913,129 of occurring, officials said.

The winning numbers in Saturday’s drawing were 23, 40, 49, 65, 69 and Powerball: 23.

The winner has 180 days to claim the prize, officials said.

The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.

“Sign the back of your ticket and put it in a safe location until you’re ready to come forward to claim the prize,” lottery officials said.

More than 20,000 winning tickets — with prizes ranging from $4 up to the $50,000 jackpot — were sold in South Carolina prior to Saturday’s drawing, according to the release.

That includes another $50,000 jackpot, that was won on Powerball’s Double Play drawing. That ticket was sold at the Circle K store at 2507 Main St. in Elgin, officials said.

The winning numbers in the Double Play drawing were 31, 34, 43, 44, 55 and Powerball 2.

Because nobody won the grand prize on Saturday, the jackpot for Monday’s Powerball drawing has increased to $605 million, according to the game’s website.

Anyone looking to buy a ticket must make a purchase by 9:59 p.m. Monday for the 10:59 p.m. drawing. Tickets are $2, and could cost more with additional options.

The odds of winning Powerball’s grand prize are 1-in-293 million.
