Which VP choice would give Biden the biggest boost? Poll ranks the options

As Joe Biden carefully decides on his running mate in the 2020 presidential election, a new poll by Morning Consult shows who could provide him the largest boost.

The survey, which polled nearly 2,000 American adults, shows Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren would provide the largest positive impact for the former vice president’s candidacy. Twenty-six percent of the people surveyed said they would be more likely to vote for Biden if Warren was his running mate.

Warren’s positive impact is most shown in black and Hispanic voters. Thirty-eight percent of Hispanics are more likely to vote for Biden with Warren as his vice president, and 34% of blacks, the poll shows.

California Sen. Kamala Harris would also give Biden a large boost among minorities, the poll shows. Overall, 22% of voters are more likely to vote for Biden if Harris is on the card. The number dips to 19% with Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar as the vice presidential candidate, according to the poll.

Only Warren, Klobuchar and Harris provide Biden a net boost. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and former Georgia governor candidate Stacey Abrams are among the Democratic women who would not help Biden’s chances to defeat Donald Trump, according to the poll.

Warren topped a CBS News poll of Democratic voters’ wish list for vice president. In CBS’ poll, Warren was the overwhelming top choice at 36%, with Harris at 19%, Abrams at 14% and Amy Klobuchar at 13%.

As far as likability, Warren fares best, a CNN poll determined. Warren is viewed favorably by 69% of Democratic voters, with Harris (59%) being the only other possible VP candidate viewed positively by at least 50% of Democrats.

Michelle Obama, a hopeful among many Democrats, wrote in her book, “Becoming,” she has “no intention of running for office, ever.” If she were to put her name in the hat, 64% of Democrats would favor her as the VP, a poll by CBS/YouGov determined.

Earlier this month, Biden and Warren collaborated on a McClatchy column that called for reforms to “end Washington corruption and guarantee a government that works for the people.” Both were among their platforms during the presidential primary.
