Firefighters discover woman’s body in blazing dumpster, Virginia Beach police say

A body was found in a burning dumpster in Virginia Beach on Saturday, officials say.

Police were called to the dumpster fire on Columbus Street at about 12:40 p.m. to assist the fire department, according to a news release from the Virginia Beach Police Department.

Once firefighters extinguished the flames, officials discovered a dead body inside the dumpster, the release says.

Officials believe the body is an adult woman, police say.

Detectives were on the scene Saturday and fire officials and the police department’s homicide unit are continuing to investigate, the release says.

No other information was released as of Sunday afternoon.
