Daughter ‘inspired’ dad to buy lottery ticket at Missouri Hy-Vee. He won $1 million

A Missouri man won life-changing money recently after a spur-of-the-moment decision at a grocery store, and he has his daughter to thank, according to state lottery officials.

The father and daughter went shopping together at a Hy-Vee supermarket in Belton, officials said in a Jan. 24 release.

She decided to buy a lottery ticket and while she didn’t win big herself, her decision “inspired” her dad, who “immediately bought the next ticket.”

They had left the store and were on the road when they inspected their tickets, officials said. The man scratched off his “100X The Bucks” game ticket and quickly pulled over to make sure he was reading the slip of paper correctly — then scanned it using the Missouri Lottery app on his phone to be certain.

Verified, there was no doubt: he had won a top prize of $1 million.

The winner told lottery officials he has “no plans” for the money.

“Not going to buy a new car?” his daughter asked. “Nope,” he said.

“I asked if he wanted a new pair of shoes and he told me, ‘No, I’m just going to polish these,’” the daughter told officials. “He said he’s got a lot of wear in them yet.”
