The man recently claimed his prize through a one-time lump sum payment equal to about $2.7 million rather than 30 annuity payments totaling $4 million.

A 59-year-old Michigan man used prize money from previous lottery wins to buy two new tickets — and it paid off big time.

He bought the Extreme Cash tickets at the Marathon gas station on Telegraph Road in Taylor, then started scratching the tickets as soon as he got in his car.

When he learned one ticket was worth $4 million, the man says he “couldn’t believe it.”

“I started shaking and sat there staring at the ticket in disbelief for about 15 minutes,” he told the Michigan Lottery, according to a March 16 news release.

After composing himself, the man knew exactly what to do next.

“I drove to my wife’s work right away to surprise her,” he said in the news release. “When she came out to my car and looked the ticket over, she couldn’t believe it either! She insisted we take it to a retailer to confirm it was real.”

The ticket was, in fact, real.

The man recently claimed his prize with the Michigan Lottery, though lottery officials say he chose to collect a one-time lump sum payment equal to about $2.7 million rather than 30 annuity payments totaling $4 million.

He plans to take his family on a warm vacation before saving the rest of the money.

Taylor is a suburb southwest of Detroit.
