Wife’s bathroom break turns into jackpot win for husband who bought SC lottery ticket
A couple’s stop at a gas station ended up landing them a jackpot in the South Carolina lottery.
While the wife stopped to use the bathroom in the Rainbow Gas Garden convenience store in Swansea, her husband decided to buy a $5 lottery ticket while he waited, he told lottery officials.
When his wife got back in their car he scratched off the Carolina Riches ticket, according to lottery officials.
He and his wife were suddenly staring at a $200,000 win in their lap.
“We didn’t know what to think,” the husband told lottery officials. “It was a surprise.”
The man had beat the 1 in 750,000 odds of winning the top prize in the game, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.
The couple said they were still deciding what to do with the winnings, lottery officials said.
The Rainbow Gas Garden #15 received a bonus $2,000 for selling a top ticket, according to lottery officials.
Swansea is about 25 miles south of Columbia.
