She woke up at 3 a.m. after Powerball drawing — and learned she won big in Michigan
A woman who often plays the Powerball lottery game was unable to sleep the night after a drawing earlier this month.
But it wasn’t because she already knew she was a winner.
“The morning after the drawing, I woke up at 3 a.m. because I couldn’t sleep and saw I had an email from the Lottery telling me I’d won a prize, but it didn’t say how much,” Anne Vantongeren, of Portage, told Michigan Lottery officials.
She then signed into her Michigan Lottery account and saw she had a $100,000 balance.
“I was shocked,” the 64-year-old woman said in a news release. “I just sat there staring at the amount waiting for it to sink in.”
Vantongeren had matched four white balls and the Powerball with the numbers 03-06-11-17-22 PB:11 in the Oct. 10 drawing, according to an Oct. 31 news release. This qualified her for a $50,000 prize.
But because Vantongeren added on a Power Play, her prize was multiplied by two for a total of $100,000. She bought her winning ticket online.
“Winning feels greats and gives me a secure feeling knowing I don’t have to worry about finances,” Vantongeren said when claiming her prize.
She plans to make some home improvements before saving the rest of her prize money.
The Powerball jackpot hasn’t been won since Aug. 3. The next drawing is on Oct. 31 and has an estimated grand prize of $1 billion.
Portage, in Kalamazoo County, is in southwest Michigan.
