Alice Grant was killing time recently while waiting for her daughter’s prescription to be filled.

While she waited inside a Giant grocery store in Alexandria, Virginia, she decided to try her hand at the lottery. She bought an Instant Millionaire ticket and started scratching, she told lottery officials, according to a Nov. 22 news release.

That’s when she saw it: Grant won a $1 million top prize.

Her first reaction was disbelief, she told officials. “This can NOT be real!”

The retired mom said she doesn’t have immediate plans for her winnings, but she told officials she is going to pay bills.

The Giant will get a $10,000 bonus from the lottery for selling the winning ticket, officials said.

Alexandria is less than 10 miles south of Washington, D.C.
